I am an associate professor in the Department of History at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, where I teach courses in Canadian, American, and Indigenous histories. I am particularly interested in the history of the North American West, Metis and First Nations histories, North American borderlands, and the histories of race and ethnicity.

I received my B.A. from Simon Fraser University, my M.A. from the University of Calgary, and my Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I am a member of Carleton’s Centre for Indigenous Research, Culture, Language and Education (CIRCLE). I also serve on the editorial boards for the Montana, The Magazine of Western History¬†and the¬†International Journal of Canadian Studies, and on Canada Post’s Stamp Advisory committee.

This site provides an overview of some of my research activities and teaching interests.
